criteria for healthy meals

Whether you’re planning to make one of our suggested e-Meal Solutions or you’re throwing together something from the supplies you have on hand, here are our Nutritionists’ criteria for a healthy meal:

  1. Looks and tastes good
  2. Is something the whole family will eat
  3. Is quick and easy to prepare
  4. Focuses on everyday ingredients
  5. Includes at least 3 of the 4 food groups:
       vegetables and fruit
       grain products
       meat and alternatives
       milk products
  6. Emphasizes fresh vegetables and/or fruit
  7. Includes lean protein such as chicken, fish,
    lean beef, tofu, an egg, nuts or peanut butter
  8. Focuses on quality ingredients such as whole
    grains and fresh versus processed items,
    lower salt and trans fat free foods
  9. Is served with a glass of water, even if drinking
    other beverages
  10. Is served in a satisfying portion that is not super large
