- Looks and tastes good
- Is something the whole family will eat
- Is quick and easy to prepare
- Focuses on everyday ingredients
- Includes at least 3 of the 4 food groups:
vegetables and fruit
grain products
meat and alternatives
milk products
- Emphasizes fresh vegetables and/or fruit
- Includes lean protein such as chicken, fish,
lean beef, tofu, an egg, nuts or peanut butter
- Focuses on quality ingredients such as whole
grains and fresh versus processed items,
lower salt and trans fat free foods
- Is served with a glass of water, even if drinking
other beverages
- Is served in a satisfying portion that is not super large
