  • Wash your hands thoroughly before preparing or eating food.
  • Use leftovers within 3 days of preparing the food.
    Return food to the fridge as soon as possible after eating.
  • Use a separate cutting board for raw meat and vegetables.
  • Use food before the expiry date.
  • Thoroughly clean your fridge at least 4 times each year.
  • Use canned and dried food within 2 years of purchasing.
  • Check your fridge temperature periodically to ensure it is at 4 degrees Celcius.
  • Keep your lunch in the fridge or bring an ice pack.
  • Wash your hands after being in the bathroom or public places.
  • Wash your water jug or water bottle weekly.
  • Use a different plate to serve cooked meat than the raw meat was in contact with.
  • Peel or wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating.
  • Buy organic produce when possible.
  • Eat well done meat only - especially if it's ground meat.
  • Avoid raw eggs in protein shakes, Caesar salad, etc.
  • Throw away expired condiments.
  • Keep foods cold on a picnic or at the beach in the summer.
  • Keep your fluid intake adequate.
  • Follow an immune-boosting diet rich in vegetables and fruits supplying vitamins A, C and E.
