Pasta – The Healthy Way

  • Pasta is a staple in many busy households
  • Every time you eat ½ a cup of cooked pasta it counts as 1 serving towards the required 5 grain products per day
  • The key is portion control. A good way to manage the portion and still enjoy a delicious meal is to make the vegetables or sauce the star of the meal and accompany with whole wheat pasta and protein.
  • How much to make? Use a pasta measure or about ½ cup short pasta or 1 inch diameter of long pasta per person
  • For perfect, non-clumping pasta, use ample water – 4 litres for 4 people, add pasta to boiling water, no salt or oil needed and cook until tender but firm (al dente). Drain right away and do not rinse.
