Healthy Meals for People with Diabetes
- More and more people are dealing with diabetes and needing to adjust their meals to control blood sugar.
- The good news is that meals can and should still be delicious. A balanced way of eating is how most of us should eat whether we have diabetes or not.
- Aim to make meals that have at least half the plate as vegetables along with a 3-4 ounce serving of lean protein. Accompany this with a moderate serving – say ½ cup – of whole grains.
- A great example meal is: Grilled fish, steamed vegetables seasoned with a little grated parmesan and a little brown and wild rice.
- For dessert – portion control is key – try a fruit-yogurt-granola parfait, cube of nice cheese with ½ a tart apple, applesauce or 2 small cookies.
