holiday cut-out cookies
the ingredients
500 mL Western Family all purpose flour 2 cups
2 mL salt ¼ tsp
175 mL Western Family butter,at room temperature ¾ cup
175 mL granulated sugar ¾ cup
1 Western Family egg 1
5 mL Western Family vanilla icing or sprinkles for decorating 1 tsp
Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Line
cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Sift the flour with the salt and set
aside. With electric mixer, blend butter
and sugar until creamy. Add egg and
vanilla and blend well. At low speed,
blend in the flour salt mixture. Remove
dough from bowl, flatten into a disk,
wrap with plastic or waxed paper and
refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Remove from refrigerator and allow
to stand for about 10 minutes. On a
floured surface, roll dough to desired
thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut
into desired shapes. Transfer to baking
sheets and bake for 12 minutes or until
just very lightly golden. Cool cookies
and decorate.
Makes about 3 dozen mediumsized
cookies. Varies with cookie
cutter shapes chosen.
