Satisfy a chocolate craving by using chocolate chips in place of the berries. They’re more rich, but mantain the benefit of the fibre and antioxidants in these cookies

Blueberry Oatmeal Cookies

425 mL Western Family quick cooking oats 1 3/4 cups
375 mL Western Family all purpose flour 1 ½ cups
5 mL Western Family baking powder 1 tsp
5 mL baking soda 1 tsp
3 mL salt ½ tsp
5 mL cinnamon 1 tsp
125 mL brown sugar ½ cup
125 mL granulated sugar ½ cup
125 mL Western Family butter ½ cup
1 Western Family egg
175 mL Western Family applesauce, unsweetened ¾ cup
175 mL raisins ¾ cup
250 mL blueberries, fresh or frozen (not thawed) 1 cup

1. Preheat oven to 375ºF (190ºC)

2. Combine first 6 dry ingredients in a medium-sized bowl.

3. In a large bowl, cream together both sugars, butter, egg and applesauce. Stir in raisins. Add dry ingredients beating until well mixed. Stir in berries. Drop by tablespoonful onto cookie sheets lined with parchment paper.

4. Bake in the centre of the oven about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand for 5 minutes before removing to cooling rack. Cool completely before packing in a container for storage.


Makes 30 cookies.
