Dates
May help prevent: cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, intestinal
disease, osteoporosis
Dates are rich in energizing carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins and minerals.
fibre-rich dates provide a laxative effect and are linked to lower rates
of certain cancers, especially intestinal cancer. This fibre also prevents
intestinal diseases such as diverticulosis and irritable bowel syndrome
and protects against heart disease. The potassium, magnesium, and calcium
content promotes healthy blood pressure levels and supports strong bones.
Its beta-carotene and folate content also protects against heart disease,
while its source of iron supports a strong immune system.
Action Tip: The sweetness of dates makes them an excellent replacement for
sugar in recipes. Chopped dates can be added to many baked items including
cakes, brownies, cookies and muffins. Add dates to your favourite cereal,
salad or trail mix.
