Tangerine
May help prevent: cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, infection,
inflammation, stroke
The tangerine is thought of as the exotic orange and is similar to a
mandarin orange. A member of the citrus family, tangerines are loaded
with protective phytochemicals and nutrients. Their hefty amount of vitamin
C boosts the immune system, protects against heart disease and cancer,
and boosts the absorption of iron in the body. Tangerines contain a duo
of flavonoids called tangeretin and nobiletin only found in this citrus
fruit. This duo reduces inflammation, thins the blood, and slows the
growth of breast and skin cancer. Plus, this exotic citrus fruit provides
beta-carotene, folate and potassium to support the reduction of cancer,
heart disease and high blood pressure. Similar to other citrus fruits,
tangerines also supply d-limonene another cancer-crushing flavonoid.
Action Tip:These ‘zipper fruits’ are easy to
eat because the thin skins peel off so easily. Tangerine sections also
pull apart easily
making them an excellent on-the-run snack or meal accompaniment. Add
these tangy segments to yogurt, cottage cheese, fruit or green salad
or enjoy a glass of 100% orange-tangerine juice.
