Mother’s Day and Women’s Health

May 7, 2019

Celebrate Mom and Support Women

Women comprise over 50 percent of the population and are a significant group of health-care users.  In addition to having children, women’s bodies are very different from men’s. While on average women live longer than men, many do so with chronic conditions or diseases that limit mobility, independence and quality of life. Women are more vulnerable to conditions such as osteoporosis and suffer from different types of cancer and women react differently to treatment and medications. With this partnership, we hope to bring focus on the importance of women’s health.

Save-On-Foods is working with 4 hospitals across Western Canada with Women’s Health programs. Bunches of Love! It’s easy to support this amazing initiative, just buy Mom flowers this Mother’s Day and 100% of net proceeds will be donated to support women’s health programs across Western Canada. Your support will help fund the most critical equipment needs of the hospital- saving lives and strengthening our communities.

From pregnancy to birth to overall women’s health, these select charities are meeting the health care needs of women in our communities. The existence of facilities like these mean that women’s health issues receive the attention they deserve.

BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre Foundation

We are national leader in women’s health, ensuring that women and newborns have access to the highest quality of healthcare, when, where and how they need it. As the largest maternity hospital in British Columbia, we support the birth of over 7,500 babies a year and are home to the only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of it’s kind in North America, caring for over 1,700 critically-ill babies each year.
BC Women’s Hospital further supports the health of women in British Columbia with over 44 different women’s health clinics and programs including our Chronic Complex Pain Clinic, Clinic for Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis, Breast and Heart Health.
We receive over 80,000 patient visits each year from women all over the province.

Funds raised will support the Milk Bank, Neonatal Intensive Care, Infant Transport Team, and Specialized Services.

Lois Hole Hospital Women’s Society

The Lois Hole Hospital for Women, located in Edmonton, Alberta, is the province’s only dedicated women’s hospital. This place of hope and healing offers specialized and sub specialized inpatient clinical care and outpatient treatments to women of all ages and in all stages of life.
An area of growing prominence and need is our comprehensive, high-risk obstetrical and maternal care department, as the Lois Hole Hospital for Women is the centre for high-risk pregnancy, labour, and delivery for patients from Edmonton, northern Alberta, and the Northern Territories.
More than 7,500 deliveries occurred at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women in 2017.
Many of these deliveries were multiples (more than one baby), or were considered high-risk, and resulted in a “Code Pink” response, that being an emergency cesarean section to save the life of the mom, her babies, or both.
Cancer surgery also comprises a large component of the care here.  The Lois Hole Hospital for Women provides surgical treatment of ovarian, cervical and other gynecological cancers. We are a Canadian leader in new treatments for urogynecologic and pelvic floor disorders and we are proud to place a special focus on the needs of maturing women.
The surgery program at this hospital is comprehensive, with more than 6,500 cases in 2017, almost one-third of which were patients arriving from smaller communities across northern Alberta. The Lois Hole Hospital currently has two operating theatres to handle both scheduled and emergency cesarean sections and four gynecological oncology operating theatres to handle all other women’s cancer surgeries.

The Health Sciences Centre Foundation

The Health Sciences Centre Foundation is proud to support the needs of Manitoba’s largest hospital. HSC is Manitoba’s flagship hospital for trauma, transplants, burns, strokes, neurosciences, cancer, and pediatric care. Donations to the HSC Foundation enable HSC to improve care in these and other areas through important research initiatives, training opportunities for health care staff, the acquisition of cutting-edge medical equipment, and the development of new state-of-the-art facilities. With the addition of a new state of art Women’s Hospital at HSC, this facility will be home to inpatient and outpatient obstetrical, surgical and medical services that will aim to provide best practices for enhanced patient care, efficient workflow, and improved technology and with areas that will optimize teaching and learning opportunities for staff. HSC delivers about half the babies in Winnipeg as well as many babies whose families travel from outside the city. HSC also provides the vast majority of hospital-based pediatric care, and performs most acute gynecologic surgical procedures for the province. HSC supports care for women from across Manitoba, northwestern Ontario and Nunavut, both for patients and their families on-site as well as through virtual and consultative support for patients and health-care providers in many rural and remote communities.

Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation

The Jim Pattison Children’s Foundation raises funds for maternal and pediatric health care. There are 4 High Risk Patient Rooms on the Maternal Care Floor and each room will require a Physiological Monitor to allow nurses and medical staff to evaluate at a glance how a mother-to-be is doing by measuring blood pressure, heart rate and respiration. After equipping the maternal spaces with the necessary furniture, fixtures and equipment they will then turn towards programs.
