Ingredients
1 1/2 (375 mL) to 2 cups (500mL) cooked chickpeas
1/4 (2mL) to 1/2 tsp (3mL) chaat masala (to taste)
1/2 tsp (3mL) Ground Sundar Cumin Seed or Western Family Ground Cumin
1/8 tsp (1mL) dry ginger powder
1/2 (3mL) to 1 tsp (5mL) thick tamarind paste or lemon juice
1/4 (2mL) to 1/2 tsp (3mL) Western Family Liquid Honey (to taste)
1 small onion, chopped
1 to 2 green chili, chopped
1 small tomato, chopped
1/4 cup (175mL) cucumber, chopped
A few sprigs of coriander leaves
Mixture of boondi, farsan and sev as topping
Directions
- Add salt, chaat masala, ground cumin and dry ginger to cooked chickpeas
- Add tamarind paste or lemon juice. For sweetness, add a little honey. Or sub for Tamarind Chutney( already tangy and sweet)
- Add chopped onions, chilies, tomatoes, cucumber and coriander leaves
- Toss well
- Taste. Add more salt if needed
- Sprinkle mixture of boondi, farsan and sev Serve chana chaat immediately
Tip: Add some curd/dahi and green chutney for a richer taste.
