Chana Chaat

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 (375 mL) to 2 cups (500mL) cooked chickpeas
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 (2mL) to 1/2 tsp (3mL) chaat masala (to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp (3mL) Ground Sundar Cumin Seed
  • 1/8 tsp (1mL) dry ginger powder
  • 1/2 (3mL) to 1 tsp (5mL) thick tamarind paste or lemon juice
  • 1/4 (2mL) to 1/2 tsp (3mL) Western Family Liquid Honey (to taste)
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 to 2 green chili chopped
  • 1 small tomato chopped
  • 1/4 cup (175mL) cucumber chopped
  • A few sprigs of coriander leaves
  • Mixture of boondi, farsan and sev as topping

Directions

  1. Add salt, chaat masala, ground cumin and dry ginger to cooked chickpeas
  2. Add tamarind paste or lemon juice. For sweetness, add a little honey
  3. Add chopped onions, chilies, tomatoes, cucumber and coriander leaves
  4. Toss well
  5. Taste. Add more salt if needed
  6. Sprinkle mixture of boondi, farsan and sev
  7. Serve chana chaat immediately

Tip: Add some curd/dahi and green chutney for a richer taste.
