Ingredients
1 lb lean ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 egg
1/3 cup Italian breadcrumbs
1 tsp fresh chopped parsley
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
3 tbsp olive oil, for cooking
500 mL tomato basil sauce
Directions
  1. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl until well combined (except for the oil and tomato sauce).
  2. Shape meatballs, this recipe makes about 18 medium-sized meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet on medium heat and carefully add meatballs. Cook in batches if necessary.
  4. Cook until browned on each side, approx. 5-6 minutes.
  5. Transfer meatballs onto a paper-lined tray.
  6. Add tomato sauce to the pan and return to low-medium heat.
  7. Place meatballs back into the pan with the sauce, cover with a lid and cook for an additional 12-15 minutes (depending on the size of the meatballs).
  8. Serve meatballs as is or with your favourite pasta. Top with parmesan if desired.
