Hearty Chili

Ingredients
2 medium onions finely chopped
2 red bell peppers chopped
4 cloves garlic finely chopped
3 tablespoons Western Family chili powder
1 tablespoon Western Family ground cumin
coarse salt & ground black pepper to taste
½ teaspoon Western Family ground cinnamon
2 lbs ground beef
1/2 lb hot Italian sausage (bulk, or removed from casings)
1 (796 ml) can Western Family crushed tomatoes
1 (796 ml) can Western Family diced tomatoes
1 (213 ml) can Western Family tomato sauce
1 (398 ml) can drained and rinsed Western Family black beans
1 (398 ml) can drained and rinsed Western Family dark red kidney beans
Western Family Triple Cheddar Shredded cheese (optional)
4 chopped green onions (optional)
Western Family Authentic Stone Ground Corn Tortilla Chips (optional)
Directions

Into a large pot over medium heat, toss in the onions, bell peppers and garlic, and sauté until tender, 6 minutes. Sprinkle in the spices to toast: chili powder, cumin, cinnamon & salt and pepper, and stir for 1 minute.

Add the beef and the sausage, and stir and brown, while breaking it up with the back of a wooden spoon until crumbly and cooked through. Once brown, add the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beans (drained & rinsed). Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and cook for 1 1/2 hours, stirring on occasion.

Top with shredded cheese and green onions and serve with our favourite Western Family Authentic Stone Ground Corn Tortilla Chips, enjoy!
